Riding the Rabbit

or in my case, the half Rabbit.  I’ve been taking in pretty slow easing back into working out since my tumble down the stairs about a month ago.  Mostly stretching here and there along with some yoga thrown in for good measure, but nothing too strenous.  Tuesday I set out for my first ride on the Swamp Rabbit Trail since summer.  The SRT is a 12.6 [or 13.1] mile trail that links Travelers Rest with downtown Greenville.  It’s realtively wide and flat so pretty fast.  I happen to live about half way between the end points and about a half a mile off the official trail.  So on Tuesday, with highs reaching 77 degrees [yay!]  I set off on the SWT.  I chose to ride the section from my house to Travelers Rest [slightly less populated...although on a Tuesday afternoon, traffic was the least of my worries].  For such a relatively easy ride, I was surprisingly out of breath, but it was a great way to enjoy the beautiful weather we are having in late November, get in some exercise, and acquire a fe more points for the HBBC.

In case your keeping up [and really, this is just for me], I now have a total of  33 points [8 on Saturday and Sunday, 2 on Monday, 10 on Tuesday, and 5 on Wednesday].

Happy Thanksgiving all [yeah, I'll be at work, but no big deal].

No wonder I am tired

I thought I was just being lazy….I am relieved to find out that my extreme tiredness is due to the fact that I worked 78 hours this week…Yep, you heard right, 78 hours…50 at one hospital and 38 at the other….If only it were all at one place, I would be making so much in overtime…as it is 10 hours of OT if pretty sweet.  And when I am tired, nothing looks better to me than this.

[Yes, I sometimes used my bed frame to store coat hangers]

and if I am being honest, so does this….

(I do realize he looks a little bit like a devil here)

It’s the little things that count

My schedule is all messed up.  I’ve worked day shift, night shift, and evening shift in the span of about a week. My body doesn’t know if it is coming or going.  For example,  I could hardly keep my eyes open at 9pm last night, so I just closed them.  When I woke up, it was 2:45am, and I was wide awake and hungry.  I ate chili that had been cooking all day [so good] with a glass of Zinfandel [I think it was my first time drinking Zin, and it went well with the chili].  What do you do at 3am?  The post office is closed as is the gym and all coffee shops/bookstores that I visit.  Can’t get my errands ran, and the 24 hr grocery store isn’t conveniently located so grocery shopping isn’t ideal either.

I have made plans to go to the gym, but haven’t made it yet.  But I did get a pile of laundry done, changed out the bed linens to my winter comforter [heavier in weight, brighter in color], and moved the furniture around in the bedroom. [It seems to flow better]  so while I have failed miserably at some things, I have to remember to celebrate the little things in life….like clean clothes, a comfortable bed, and clutter free living space.

I am hoping to swing by the gym after my afternoon nap, get to the post office [finally!], hit up Target for a few things, and then begin my weekend of working in the NICU.

Summer’s last hurrah?

I am writing this at 9:30 or so in the evening and it is still 66 degrees and raining.  Down a bit from the high of 76 this afternoon.  I don’t mind the rain–especially since we are in a ‘moderate’ drought, but I really hate cold rain.  I’ll take 75 and rainy over 55 and sunny any day.   It’t too bad I had to sleep most of the day and missed the nice weather.  I am just glad I didn’t need my coat when I went out to my car.  Changes are a-coming though….  I see cold temperatures just in time for the weekend.  But even I can’t complain about this:

Not too shabby for November, huh?–and that is why I love living in South Carolina.

Super busy, but doing what?

It seems like only yesterday I was getting excited about going to Tennessee for the football game [It was in fact an entire week ago]. So this is more of a catch-up post than a post about any one thing.

I worked Monday and Tuesday at my ‘old’ hospital.  We were super busy with asthmatic kids galore, c-sections, twins, and just general sick people.  It was as busy as it has been in a while, but it is >75% pediatrics so I am happy [and being busy means I am in demand :)]

I am working tonight and tomorrow at the ‘new’ hosptial.  So far tonight we have had a 32-week twin delivery and I am taking care of three babies on ventilators and one on CPAP.  I am so glad to be working in an environment where there are ‘sick’ kids. [I am not wishing ill health on any one's child, but after 4 years of not working in critical care, I am more than glad to be back in it].

I had a day off in the middle of the week [which I usually love], but all I did was sleep all day.  I was quite producitve at home in the wee hours though.  I got my recipie box cleaned out.  I organized my filing cabinet.  I inventoried the pantry, freezer, and refriderator. I went through my storage boxes and got out my winter clothes [packed away for 2 years!], made it through Module 1 of the Berkely Review for MCAT, and I got kitty’s new litterbox assembled and put in its proper location.

I did not, however, get many other things done such as going to the post office [packages to pick up and mail!], the grocery store, or to the gym.  I am staying on track with my financial goals [yay!].  I am doing a better job of making lists of things I need and sticking to the lists [yay], but I am not doing a good job of going to the gym regularly.  So this coming weeks’ goal [Nov 12-19] will be to go to the gym 3x–even if it is just for 30-45 minutes.  It should be easier now that I work [new hospital] right across the street from my gym.  Small changes. That’s my new motto.
